Post Mastectomy/ Lumpectomy Care

MastectomyPhoto.jpg

I have spent the last three and a half years working with breast cancer survivors in my private practice. One thing that comes up time and time again from my clients is a desire for continued care after their mastectomy or lumpectomy surgery. So when it's time to return home after surgery, it doesn't mean there's nothing to be done. There's still so much benefit to be gained from coming in and looking at things like:

  • how scar tissue is healing

  • any postural changes or challenges

  • changes in muscle tissue or skin health

  • range of motion challenges

So, in my practice, I have designed a 60 min session that I've called Breast Reintegration to really take a look at these things and give women (and men)the peace of mind and attention they really need as they heal. To learn more about this session please check out the Breast Reintegration section on my Modalities page.

So why trust me with your post-mastectomy/lumpectomy care? While I am not a doctor nor have I ever had a cancer diagnosis, I have had personal experience healing from breast surgery. In 2002 I had a breast reduction. While breast reduction surgery is nothing like treatment or surgery to address cancer, these surgeries and recoveries do have some things in common, like:

  • drainage tubes

  • bandaging

  • post-surgical bras

  • postural implications

  • scarring and scar tissue

  • and the mental/emotional challenges that come with having surgery on arguably one of the most sensitive, identity-forming parts of our female bodies

I offer this care now because I wish I had had this care. I wish I had had someone knowledgable to help me address my scar tissue and help me along on my healing journey after surgery. I remember feeling so scared and unsure if that's what my scars were supposed to look like, or whether or not I was healing okay. Everything felt uncertain. So I am here to tell you,

You do not have to do this alone.

I am on your team.
